Circuit of Le Mans 24 hours race

Le Mans 24 hours race is a car competition of a period of 24 hours, it takes place in June ( in general during the 24th week of the year) on circuit road, in south of Le Mans, in Sarthe department in France. This trial exist since 1923, is one of the three race the most prestigious in the world with Grand Price of Monaco and the 500 miles of Indianapolis.

Since 2012, this trial is part of endurance world championship FIA, and according the American National Geographic Society, it is the number one sporting event in the world.

The race had, over the year inspired similarly race everywhere in the world and popularize the same format of 24 hours such as in Daytona, in Nurburgring and in Spa – Francorchamps. The American championship Le Mans Series and Le Mans Series have been spun off from Le Mans 24 hours rule.

Le Mans Cathedral

Saint Julien Cathedral is a religious edifice located in Le Mans city, in Sarthe. It is a symbol of diocese and bishopric of le Mans where located bishopric of this city. It’s one of the biggest edifice of roman gothic in France and a unique case in West. It is a medieval testimony of architectural style of Angers Gothic.

Le Mans Cathedral had suffered several building and rebuilding since it foundation. Started around 1060 by bishop Vulgrin, it was finished under it presents state around 1430. It should have been extended around 1500, but lack of money resigned the religious authority period. Attacked by air pollution year after year, suffers of natural aging, Saint Julien cathedral is a constant renovation construction site. It accommodates saint julien and Charles of Anjou. Located on the hill of old Le Mans, the building has a tower culminating at 64 meters which actually makes it as the highest “agglomeration mancelle” and dominating also the town of le mans.

With 283 613 visitors, the cathedral Saint Julien has been the most visited monument in the region of Pays de la Loire in 2009.

L’Abbaye de L’Epau (The abbaye de L’Epau)

L’abbaye royale de l’Epau is an old Cistercian abbey founded by Queen Bérangère of Navarre in 1229 – 1230. It is located at the gate of the city of Le Mans on the left of Huisne River in Yvré l’Evêque village.

The abbaye had almost disappear many times not only because of the wars but also because of financial problems during modern times. It was finally saved by the General Council of Sarthe who acquired it in 1959. It was one of the historic owners of the department of Sarthe.
